Hi Siva-
Could you explain more about what it is you are trying to do? Do you have a
point shapefile of jobs that you are trying to spatially join (point in
polygon) to a polygon shapefile of some kind, such as gridcells? Are you
using ArcGIS to do this, or some other software or spatial database?
Any spatial join type operation consisting of 2 million points will be time
consuming. Depending on the speed of your PC, it could easily take hours,
if not overnight to perform. Are you certain the system crashes, or is
simply processing to the point that it appears crashed?
If you are using ArcGIS and are not already doing this, I have had better
luck importing shapefiles into a file geodatabase and doing the processing
there. I have found them to be faster at geoprocessing, although it can
take a bit to import shapefiles into one.
Let us know how things worked out and we will be glad to help.
