Hi,
As we set up UrbanSim for Austin, we're trying to keep in mind that all
of the steps we take should be easily transferable to any MPO. We're
wondering what steps others are taking to create processes for data
manipulation that can be easily understood by non-computer programming
experts.
For example...
We have an employment point file with one record for each employment
location, and UrbanSim requires a jobs table, with one record for each
job. We first joined the employment point file with our parcel file so
that we know the land use of each employment and the grid ID. For
conversion to a jobs table, it's easiest for us to write a program in C
or some other language, but we're thinking that setting up a way to do
it in MySQL may be easier for others to use.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue - not just for conversion of
employment locations to job records, but for any of the various data
manipulations that take place?
Thank you,
Jen
