UrbanSim has had a built-in capacity to generate
'within_walking_distance' computations since version 3, providing
efficient computation of variables based on values in surrounding
cells. Income composition, land use density and mix, and employment
within walking distance variables are examples that use this feature.
The threshold distance to use in the spatial search is set in
urbansim_constants. This helps offset the limitations of TAZ geography
for accessibility variables, for instance, by querying retail or other
opportunities within a short distance of the residential location.
