Aaran,
That's an interesting idea. We'll look into it. Thanks.

Hi,
Will there be any form of online component of the workshop?
Webcast/podcast maybe?
Would be great to see not only the presentation but also some of
the new version in action, particularly in relation to creation of the
base data and how the new features may enhance my implementation.
I have just ordered my GIS base data and am trying to decide if
I should wait for the new version or plough into Version 3. Very
interested in the custom grid cells :-)
Cheers,

Bob,
While perspective users would benefit from the workshop,
our goal is to first assist current users in migrating to version 4.
Thus, if there is a shortage of spaces, we'll probably give current
users preferential treatment.
By the way, we'll post a registration request form in a
few days, which people can use to request seats at the training
workshop.

Would non-Urbanism users get any benefit from
the July training session in Seattle? We're contemplating using
Urbanism to replace our land use allocation model here at LCOG and the
version 4 improvements might just put us over the top.

Dear UrbanSim users,
I hope this email finds you all well and
enjoying the spring weather (if you are in the northern hemisphere).
As some of you have heard, there are two
notable UrbanSim events coming soon.
Firstly, we will release a new version
of UrbanSim on or before June 30th. UrbanSim 4 is based upon our new
Open Platform for Urban Simulation (Opus) and provides substantial
improvements over the Java version that many of you are using. For an
overview of Opus, see
http://www.urbansim.org/papers/DG_Opus_System_Demo_final_v7.pdf
<http://www.urbansim.org/papers/DG_Opus_System_Demo_final_v7.pdf> (this
describes our upcoming Digital Conferences system demo on Tuesday May
23). For more details on Opus, see
http://www.urbansim.org/papers/Opus_Cupum_v7_fixed_link.pdf. We have
been testing this system extensively as part of our Puget Sound Regional
Council work, and are working with a few other locations to move from
UrbanSim 3 to UrbanSim 4.
Secondly, we will conducting a hands-on
training session for Opus and UrbanSim 4 users. The intent is to help
people understand what Opus and UrbanSim 4 are and how they are
different from UrbanSim 3, to help existing users convert from UrbanSim
3 to UrbanSim 4, and to foster collaboration on further Opus
development. This training will be held on the University of Washington
campus in Seattle on July 9 - 13. Sunday will be an evening session,
only. Wednesday will be an optional day for those who want more
hands-on interaction. Space will be limited. More details soon.
Best regards,
