Dear UrbanSim users,
I hope this email finds you all well and enjoying the spring weather (if
you are in the northern hemisphere).
As some of you have heard, there are two notable UrbanSim events coming
soon.
Firstly, we will release a new version of UrbanSim on or before June
30th. UrbanSim 4 is based upon our new Open Platform for Urban
Simulation (Opus) and provides substantial improvements over the Java
version that many of you are using. For an overview of Opus, see
http://www.urbansim.org/papers/DG_Opus_System_Demo_final_v7.pdf
<http://www.urbansim.org/papers/DG_Opus_System_Demo_final_v7.pdf> (this
describes our upcoming Digital Conferences system demo on Tuesday May
23). For more details on Opus, see
http://www.urbansim.org/papers/Opus_Cupum_v7_fixed_link.pdf. We have
been testing this system extensively as part of our Puget Sound Regional
Council work, and are working with a few other locations to move from
UrbanSim 3 to UrbanSim 4.
Secondly, we will conducting a hands-on training session for Opus and
UrbanSim 4 users. The intent is to help people understand what Opus and
UrbanSim 4 are and how they are different from UrbanSim 3, to help
existing users convert from UrbanSim 3 to UrbanSim 4, and to foster
collaboration on further Opus development. This training will be held
on the University of Washington campus in Seattle on July 9 - 13.
Sunday will be an evening session, only. Wednesday will be an optional
day for those who want more hands-on interaction. Space will be
limited. More details soon.
Best regards,
David Socha
